The Whale Road

The Whale Road - Robert Low I had a hard time getting into the book. I read a few pages and stopped. Came back some time later, read a few more and stopped again. This go 'round, I found it more enjoyable and managed to stick with it from page 30 on. I can't really explain why (not in the mood, slow start, not sure) I couldn't initially get into this book but now that it's over I'd certainly give it upwards of 4-4.5 stars. A great, well researched Viking saga (even if the Hun Horde and the Spear of Destiny was a little far fetched) that I will certainly continue with once I get some of my ridiculous stack read. Most certainly recommended.

Captain America: The Death of Captain America, Vol. 1: The Death of the Dream

Captain America: The Death of Captain America, Vol. 1: The Death of the Dream - Ed Brubaker, Mike Perkins, Steve Epting Man that Brubaker guy is amazing...

Lobster Johnson: The Satan Factory

Lobster Johnson: The Satan Factory - Thomas E. Sniegoski, Gregory Manchess Awesome book. Love the Lobster. Sniegoski really nailed it and really got the Lobster. Wouldn't mind seeing a comic adaptation of this, simply to see how Sneigoski might lay it out in panel form. If you love the Mignolaverse as much as I do, definitely check this out.

Raven: Blood Eye (Raven 1)

Raven: Blood Eye (Raven 1) - Giles Kristian Really enjoyed this. If I had more time I'd have finished this much sooner. Just a solid, solid book. Great Norse Saga and I can wait to read the next ones, and the prequel!

The Winter King (The Warlord Chronicles, #1)

The Winter King (The Warlord Chronicles, #1) - Bernard Cornwell Enjoyed it. A lot going on, to be sure, but the battles were intense and it was certainly more greatness from Bernard Cornwell. Regardless of how "historical" this is, based on what little is known, Cornwell did a helluva job. Definitely check it out.

PLUTO: Urasawa x Tezuka, Volume 005

PLUTO: Urasawa x Tezuka, Volume 005 - Naoki Urasawa, Naoki Urasawa, Takashi Nagasaki, 長崎 尚志 My god this series. Another one-sitter. It's just fantastic. Mystery, intrigue, suspense, action, feels! It had it all. Buy this series right now. Break into your local shop if you have to.

Biomega, Vol. 1 (Biomega, #1)

Biomega, Vol. 1 (Biomega, #1) - Tsutomu Nihei Might have gotten 5, but some of the set was just too muddled. The clearer panels are fantastic, but sometimes it just gets bogged down with blacks. Anyway, story wise it's interesting and it's certainly extremely fast paced. I'll be getting more volumes for sure.

Berserk, Vol. 1

Berserk, Vol. 1 - Kentaro Miura Unsure about this. The art was okay, the story was weird... I dunno. I'm told I need to give at least the next volume a shot but compared to what I've been reading, it doesn't hold up.

Mobile Suit Gundam: THE ORIGIN volume 1: Activation

Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin, Vol. 1: Activation - Hajime Yatate, Yoshiyuki Tomino, Yoshikazu Yasuhiko Some earlier panels lost me a bit, but it's a sweet collection. Not only just the look and feel of the hardcover, but the story and art inside. Count me in for more.

Siberian Red

Siberian Red - Sam Eastland Great read. Love the Russian history, Stalin, Tsars and that sort of thing. Plus Eastland has some great core characters. Definitely recommend this if you're into that era of historical fiction.

Pluto: Urasawa x Tezuka, Vol. 4

Pluto: Urasawa x Tezuka, Vol. 4 - Naoki Urasawa Just... Wow. Just keeps getting better. Emotional too! Don't have the words.

Pluto: Urasawa x Tezuka, Vol. 3

Pluto: Urasawa x Tezuka, Vol. 3 - Naoki Urasawa Each one has been better than the last. This is an absolute treat to read. Can't wait to start 004.

Wolfsmund, Volume 1

Wolfsmund, Volume 1 - Mitsuhisa Kuji In an attempt to sate my withdrawals from VINLAND SAGA, I picked this up. Quite enjoyed it, even if it's essentially three short stories based on the one pass that loosely ties together. But it was another great one-sitting read. So count me in for more.

Black Jack, Vol. 1

Black Jack, Vol. 1 - Osamu Tezuka First Tezuka and man... BLACK JACK is something else. It was little cartoony at first and, considering the Manga I've been reading, threw me off a bit. But once I got into it, it's really great. Deep, dark, humorous, witty... Something else man. Have to read it to really understand it.

Pluto: Urasawa x Tezuka, Vol. 2

Pluto: Urasawa x Tezuka, Vol. 2 - Naoki Urasawa So yeah... I just blasted through this volume in one sitting before bed and holy shit is all there is to say. That, and I'm glad I bought volume 3 at the same time so I have something to tide me over until I can get more.
